In September 2020, new regulations for teaching relationships and sex education (RSE) in English schools come into force, an inconceivable landmark moment for those who grew up under Section 28. However, to be effective, schools and teachers need to be equipped with the correct training and have proper resources.
Therefore, you can now sponsor a school to make sure they have access to these new vital resources, policy guidance, lesson plans, curriculum maps, discounts on services and MUCH MORE!

Are You Proud? - a documentary which charts over 50 years of the LGBT+ movement - was named one of the Guardianโs Top Ten Documentaries Of The Year and has since gone on to be screened around the world. Director Ashley Joiner says โAre You Proud? was the film I needed to see when I was growing up under Section 28, and now we have an incredible opportunity to make sure itโs available to every young person in the country. With Prideโs across the country being cancelled due to Covid-19, what better way to show our pride than by supporting the next generationโ
Dr Elly Barnes, MBE, founder of Educate and Celebrate says, โFor us at E&C this is about politicising young people and helping them to draw parallels between the history shown in Are You Proud? and today's political climate. For instance we could explore the Conservative governments' response to the AIDS/HIV in the 80's and the COVID-19 pandemics. In that, in a time of national crisis, Thatcher brings in Section 28 to rub salt into the wounds of the queer community and Lizz Truss pedals backwards on the Gender Recognition Act. We could view these as deliberate political attacks on the LGBT+ community in a time of national crisis."
Developed in response to the film, the lesson plans are designed to help 11-18 year olds understand the complex LGBT+movement towards liberation and how their struggle intersects with other groups' campaigns for freedom; and could be delivered in History, Politics, PSHE, whole school assemblies and tutorials.
