Description

  • Exploring the queer, black and women’s struggle for inclusion and how they came together for positive change though a poem by poet and activist PJ Samuels
  • We partnered with Director Ashley Joiner and Producer Dan Cleland to bring you a series of lesson plans for KS3, 4 and 5 (which can be found in the members only area) plus this assembly
  • This resource is a Scheme of Work which can be used over 3-6 weeks, utilising the powerful film Are You Proud? as a backdrop to helping young people understand the struggle for liberation
  • Background: The LGBTQ+ movement in the UK has fought bruising battles for equality. Directed by Ashley Joiner and Produced by Dan Cleland, Are You Proud? brings together rare archive footage and interviews from across a spectrum of historical campaigns to celebrate the movement’s landmark achievements. Pride, the Gay Liberation Front and the LGSM are among the organisations recognised in a film that doesn’t just look back but asks tough questions about the future. 50 years after the Stonewall riots in America, this is a timely moment to take stock and question how much attitudes have changed, and fundamental rights have been achieved.
